Envelopes to pdf? Or other "non-standard" papers?
  • I have 0.9.9, which is I think the most current version, but like all prior versions, I have no luck when I try to go from a Word document containing envelopes (or something other than a standard paper size) to pdf.

Given all the other flexibilities pdfcreator has, I would think that "printing" non-standard size documents to pdf would be easy.

    How is this done?

  • From the above-referenced link:

To create new paper formats, they have to be created under Printer->Server settings. There you can create name and dimensions of the format. Aftwards, you can use it in Word.

From pdfcreator 0.9.9, I see no settings of this type.

Could you give me, starting with the "Options" button in the dialog box that opens when I print to pdfCreator, a step-by-step of how I find the "printer > server settings?"

    Thanks!

  • You can find these settings in the Windows printer dialog not in the PDFCreator options. (Control panel -> printers)

  • Okay, so I have played with the paper size from the printer dialog (Windows) and nothing works.  The output actually does look different from my standard 8.5 x 11 output, but it's in no way resembling the envelope size I'm requesting.

Makes no difference if I specify a custom size, or pick the envelope size from the dropdown menu that I get.

  • Than you are doing something wrong. I've tested it with Win XP, Vista, Win7 and Office 2000\ Office 2003\Office 2007.

I created a new paper format in control panel\printer settings\paper formats (called Test), than opened word and choosed the new paper format Test. I saw the new paper format. I printed it with PDFCreator and got what I want - a pdf with my new paper format.

  • From XP SP 3, this is the closest path I can take, to what you're describing:

control panel > printers and faxes > pdfcreator > select printing preferences > (advanced button) > paper size

Then from there, whether I pick a defined size (there are several dozen from which to choose), or define a custom one on my own, pdfcreator doesn't recognize it.

Let me ask - from what do you get your printer driver for pdfcreator, because maybe that is where I'm fouling up?

  • The best is we can do a remote session (Teamviewer). Is this possible?
