Nice program, but I have a problem with the spyware

First of all, thanks for this helpful program. I just have one major complaint.

I know this has been mentioned before, but if we don't speak up, nothing will change. This program is packaged with one of those absolutely dispicable browser spyware plugins.  You know what I'm talking about; you even provide some ridiculous justification for it here: http://www.pdfforge.org/content/pdfcreator-toolbar-spyware (guys, I'll end the great debate right here: it's spyware)

We're all used to shady websites trying to con us into installing bullshit like this all the time, but I dunno, I guess when I got this semi-legit looking, handly little app off sourceforge I thought it'd be a bit less misleading about what is actually being installed.

The problem, I believe, lies in the install components checkbox screen of the setup, where we can choose different languages to install and whatnot.  I mistakenly assumed that the "pdfforge browser plugin" or some such innocently named component (no reference to search bars, yahoo, mybrowsertoolbar whatsoever) was a useful part of the app.  Yeah, go on, laugh it up, I'm a clueless idiot, whatever.  I'd like to give the good folks at pdfforge the benefit of the doubt and not assume that you're trying to intentially mislead people into installing spyware, so maybe you'd consider fixing the description of the spyware component?

I just want to know what the point of the screen prior to the component checkboxes was supposed to be.  It asked me if I wanted to install some browser toolbar, I made damn sure that box was not checked.  You can imagine my dismay when I ended up with the stupid little piece of shit anyway.

PS. I really did find your app (the portion I knew I was installing, anyway) simple to use and, well, wonderful, so thank you.

PPS. You already got me with the spyware, but you don't collect forum account emails for mailing lists too, right? Oh well.

I would have to agree with dirtywm, it is shady and misleading to give the user a check box to opt out of the toolbar installation but then go ahead and install it anyway. Thumbs down on that one.

Yep, want to second that motion!

Please remove the toolbar options allllllltogether, theres no added value, and to add injury to insult: It even reduces my browser window real estate - and won't even cleanly uninstall. Since disabling the plugin in FF, it can't even print to any device, always throwing an error message.

Hi @ll,

this is all dicussed in a long thread already.

Hello,

yes, we know it is confusing as it is not quite qhat the user expects. Please read the forum topic linked above to see why it still is this way. We are thinking about how we can improve it, without always enabling the toolbar in automated installs. (As they use the component list via ini settings)

kind regards,
Philip
