Pdf print monitor showing instead of document

I see a post from Jan 6 with the title “pdf print monitor showing instead of document”.  The status of this discussion shows SOLVED/CLOSED, but no information is given on HOW it was resolved.  I am having the same problem.  I installed PDFCreator on a Win8 laptop, and when I launch the main program all I see is the pdf print monitor.

when you start PDFCreator, it is normal that the Print Monitor shows up. In order to convert something, just print a file to the PDFCreator printer and another window will show where you can save the PDF.
