Why not default to the latest PDF compatibility?

If X is the newest format you offer, why is the default X-1 instead of X ("Formats=>PDF=>General=>Compatibility")?

Wouldn't X give smaller sizes or whatever?

I know I can change it myself, but your decision makes me think maybe you know something I don't.

Hello,

the default is chosen because newer versions do not add other features that need to be used but adds strong encryption. The higher the version, the more likely it is that you run into problems with older Readers / Clients.
