Are there any plans for the ghostscript console to support input of unicode foreign language characters? Specifically I'm working with Japanese and would like to use their characters in file names and PDF passwords.

Thanks for any information you may have.

Ghostscript is compiled as an ANSI application, rather than Unicode. I don't know of any plans to change it to using Unicode.

Filenames and passwords are stored as PostScript strings, so these will always be 8-bit characters. The best you could do would be to rely on the ANSI to Unicode conversions that automatically happen, but I don't know if that has ever been tested.

Unicode filename is not applicable.

Hi,

According to this recent post (2012-05-08), Ghostscript now supports unicode http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=690026#c12

Does this mean that it is now possible to support savings of Japanense filenames?

Thanks,

Allan.
