How do I repair error 5, not allowing PDFCreator driver installation?

Hi,

please check if there is still a PDFCreator printer in your printers section and delete it manually.

Also check if the pdfcmon.dll is still present in windows\system32 and delete it if it is (you might need to run cmd.exe as admin and type “net stop spooler” to be able to delete it).

Thank you, Robin.

I did those things you request. Now how do I install the printer driver so that when I want to print a pdf, the “PDFCreator” shows as an option. I can run a test print and the PDF Architect 2 seems to work properly. My system has always had issues with “security” with creating pdf - my Adobe Acrobat 8 will not print pdf, for example, but will edit, modify, view, etc.

Another point worth noting, until I “upgraded” from PDFCreator 1.5.0, all prints worked flawlessly.

Latest info: I removed the installed 1.7.3, and reinstalled using the command

PDFCreator-%version%_setup.exe /SAVEINF="PDFCreator.inf"<br><br>allowing the inf file to be saved to the same location as the pdfcreator.exe<br>file.  When I attempt in install the PDFCreator printer from the add a printer<br>menu, the computer baulks that there is not driver suitable for win7 64x.<br>The same result occurs when I use windows compatibility settings and make sure<br>the .exe file runs as a winXP software.  Test page works in all instances from<br>the program itself.  <br><br>I can ID the new PDFCreator printer using the Adobe acrobat drivers fro Acrobat<br>8.3.1.  System likes that driver but will not create PDF files from it.  <br>How do I set the driver so it is recognized properly?<br>

Hi,

normally the printer is created automatically during the setup and it should not be neccessary to add it manually afterwards. Please send your setuplog.txt to support@pdfforge.org or post it here and we will have a look at it.

I will post the setup files, current one since I removed version 1.7.3 and added 1.5.0, which was the last one to work. I will post the inf file which I was able to create and attempted to use to install the printer manually, which I did not have to do.

Hi,

it looks like there was or still is a printer from an earlier PDFCreator version which can’t get deleted. To fix this, please uninstall the version you currently have and rebbot your machine. Now check the list of printers in the Windows control panel and remove the PDFCreator printer manually if it is still there. Also check if the pdfcmon.dll got deleted from windows\system32, if not delete it. Afterwards the setup should install the printer properly.

Thanks Robin and team. You recommendations worked and the program now works. I am running the 1.5.0 and not the newest version.
