I have even redirected the obnoxious "my documents" to Desktop in Registry.
Still, occasionally, my pdfCreator offers saving into this system folder instead of my usual choice (which is always Desktop).
I have seen no control in the pdfC settings to enforce pdfC always offered my choice instead of the win7 default.
Have I missed something in pdfC, or is it just one of those hopeless "improvements" of Windows (ever more harder to work around)?
This saving to Documents is troublesome especially because you can easily overlook it has not saved where it was supposed to do it and you can subsequently use an older version of the file instead.
Responding to Please read and Knonw problems by robin:
* The site provides no search facility to check before posting.
* My impression was I used to overspecify my questions. Sometimes potential counsellors might have been discouraged from reading due to a description provided where a line or two only was expected. That is why I drifted more to the "please help" rather than "this is the dump: ..." position.
* "w7" stand for ... (sorry, I am joking)
My installation is old with heaps of personal data (in fact, I even do not know what "a snapshot of the system" is). Here is a few data:
Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M PDF Creator v. 1.3.2, GPL Ghostscript 9.05
AHA! ... I may see a potential issue: HKLM\\Soft~~\\Explorer\\Shell Folders\\ ~Common Documents==C:\\Users\\Public\\Documents ~Personal==C:\\Users\\jh\\Documents\\ !! pdfC is very probably installed as common
This is just a skim of the Registry, a few items they seemed to me of a potential interest.
there is no setting in PDFCreator which defines the standard save folder, but it does remember the last folder you saved in and will save the next documents to the same folder. Have you noticed, at what point the save dialog "suddenly" changes to my Documents again (after reboot?)? To give a simple answer: It is most likely a Windows issue, no settings in PDFCreator control this.
P.S. there is a search, it seems to be confusing to find though, but it is actually explained in "Please read first before posting":)
Please take a look at HKCU\\Software\\PDFCreator\\Program->LastsaveDirectory and see if it changes to "my Documents" or if it saves the last path you used but you are still offered to save in "my Documents" anyway.
A user on the german board pointed out, that for him PDFCreator will only "remember" the last used path, if the folder "Spooler" folder in the user-temp path isn´t deleted, this couldn´t be reproduced by us, but maybe you could test if this is also the case for you.
