When installing v1.4.3 (actually all versions now) I always get a registry error
"Error creating registry key:
HKey_USERS\\.DeFAULT\\Software\\PDFCreator\\Ghostscript
RegCreateKeyEx failed; code 1021
cannot create a stable subkey under a volatile parent key."
This is on a Windows server 2003 but I have had exactly the same message on win 7.
Looking at the requests for help I don't see any referring to this problem. Did not used to happen I have done many successful installs.
Another point, I just downloaded from Sourceforge and got v1_2_1
Help !
Has nobody had a similar problem? Given that it is happening with every install no matter what the platform and in widely separated machines I am most puzzled by why it should be happening to me and (others who try the same installation at my request)
Hi,
it is really misterious,
you indeed seem to be the only user reporting this so far, all our test machines don´t have this problem. Could you post your setuplog.txt here?
regards,
Robin
My Apologies for a later post (today 10/5/13) I did not see this response. Here is the setup log

Hi,
I´m not completely aware of the problems which existed with 1.4.3,
please try removing any existing version, reboot your machine and install version 1.7.0.
You can also try to use the /ForceInstall parameter, although the program may not function as expected if installed with errors.
regards,
Robin
This problem is not only with v1.4.3 but also with every subsequent attempt to install all the later versions. The machines I am trying to install on are ones which have never had an installation of PDFCreator. I simply sent the log file that I got when I had attempted to install 1.4.3.
With the experience I have had with this problem, I have not dared to try to update an existing installation that is working fo fear that I will lose the ability to create PDFs.
Hi,
due to the fact that nobody else has this error (and version 1.4.3 was released so long ago that I am sure we would have heared about this if this was a generall PDFCreator bug), I assume it has to be something with your systems (allthough it is also puzzeling that this would happen on more then 1 of your machines, but not on other users ones).
Please try if this
or this
is any help to you.
regards,
Robin
Forget that 1.4.3 was mentioned at all. The problem is happening with 1.7 or whatever the latest version is and it happens on every system I try to install it on and none of them are my systems. If it was just one machine I would agree it was something in that system, however it is every computer that I download to and try to install, from Win XP to Win 7.
I do nothing exotic and the systems are are plain vanilla windows installations.
I just launch the installer after the download and invariably get this error.
I have looked at the two suggested MSDN threads. The suggestion from both these threads is that SQL Server has some impact. I know that MS has infiltrated various forms of SQL Server into the operating systems so although there is no specific app involving SQL Server lite medium or heavy. There could be some interaction however if that was an issue then I would have expected to see the problem coming up frequently.
The other fact to be considered is that the versions up to 1.3.x installed without a problem and I have one of those still running on my own system.
Hi,
are you sure they are 100% vanilla windows with no additional software at all installed?
We aren´t able to reproduce this on any of our machines with any operating system.
regards,
Robin
