I am trying to run PDFCreator 2.1 on a Windows 7 x64 system. I have
tried everything I can think of, but PDFCreator is just a black hole on
my system. Files and prints go in and nothing ever comes out. I have
watched the print queue when sending test pages, and the test page shows
up in the queue for a fraction of a second before vanishing. No popups.
No PDF files. No errors. Nothing. The last (and most intense) effort included
doing the following:
Removed all old printers from my system
Removed all unused printer drivers from my system
Removed PDFCreator with REVO Uninstaller, cleaning out the registry
Rebooted the system
Re-installed PDFCreator 2.1 from a fresh download
There were no errors or problems with the install, but when I print to it nothing happens.
I too am having the same issue, the strange thing is that it’s only happening for a single app. If I try to perform the same action from another application it converts it just fine. There are no errors coming through on the PDFCreator logs.
I am having this issue with every app I have tried. That list includes Outlook, Excel, Word, Notepad, and of course the print test page button in the driver.
I too have intermittent ‘nothing happens’ results. I am running Win XP, SP3, and PDFCreator ver 0.9.5. Sometimes when I run the computer, it works perfectly. Other times, it just doesn’t generate a pdf, doesn’t display a pdf, and doesn’t show an error message. I have Adobe Reader 11 in the computer, which isn’t open at the time. This time I am trying to make a pdf from Word, which is in my MS Office Professional 2003 SP3.
I have solved it sometimes by rebooting, but often I have 10 files open, which is inconvenient. I am the sole user on this home computer.
please turn the logging level to “trace” in the debug section of the application settings, empty the logfile, start any print job which will fail and send the resulting log to support@pdfforge.org or post it here with the “paste as text button” (otherwise there will be a forum error about the body being to long).
I’m having exactly the same problem.
Printing from every single application that I try results in nothing happening at all.
I checked the following directories and they all have full permissions for the “SYSTEM” user.
I did a full reboot of the
machine and now each print attempt that I made before the reboot is resulting
in the PDFCreator saving dialogue to appear. Then when saving it acts as it should (i.e. creating a PDF of the document as one would expect).
Please let me know if there is
something else that I should do or if this problem is truly resolved because I
noticed that someone else also said that their problem was only temporarily resolved
by rebooting.
I am afraid this is rather difficult to tell, as I don’t know how the reboot solved the issue.
Perhaps it needs a reboot to update the permissions for the files stored in the temp spool folders, but to my understanding those should change instantly upon changing the permission of the folders.
Nothing I have done has gotten PDFCreator to do anything on this system. Rebooting has not helped me in any way. The log file you requested is posted above.
unfortunately the log doesn’t contain any visible errors.
Perhaps it will help to additionally activate logging for the pdfcmon.dll (our monitor).
This can be done by adding the DWORD entry “logging” with the value 1 to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\pdfcmon in your registry.
I too am having the same problem. Currently, if I try to print to PDFCreator, the print queue briefly loads-up, but is then quickly and mysteriously purged … all without the PDFCreator dialog box ever appearing.
Prior to the onset of this total failure, I started with a problem that the PDFCreator print dialog box would only appear AFTER I closed the source document. Say, if I was trying to print from msWord … I might try to print (say) three times, with no result. Then, if I exit msWord, three PDFCreator print dialog boxes pop-up in quick succession.
But now, I can’t even do that.
Previously I was using Panda Cloud Anti-Virus and I recall that a few months ago, some part of Panda AV was blocking something in PDFCreator, having flagged it as a suspicious activity. I was able to whitelist that app and the problem went away.
When the problem resurfaced again recently, I again suspected Panda AV … but in the meantime the Panda AV interface had changed, dumbed down I think, and I could not find the suspicious app filter part and whitelist.
Since I was thinking tp change AV, I uninstalled Panda Cloud AV and installed Kaspersky KIS AV. However, to my surprise, this did not solve the problem.
I installed the latest PDFCreator with and without Architect … but that did not solve the problem.
Then I uninstalled, and rolled back to an older version, but it still does not work.
@RonB I sent you a mail as this thread is getting a bit messy
Hi enquiring,
while the outcome of the problem is the same, the reason is probably something different.
Have you checked the permissions for your users %TEMP% directory?
The AV most likely blocked the offer screen during the setup, but this doesn't have any impact on PDFCreators functionality. Please post your setuplog.txt and if possible a log from printing a windows test page with the logging level set to "trace" for PDFCreator 2.1.2.
