PDF Architect convert to Excel creates XML files

On June 7, 2013, I purchased PDF Architect specifically to convert PDF files to Excel format.

The toolbar says “PDF to XLS” but it does not convert to XLS. It converts to a file with extension XML. I’m using the Apache office suite from openoffice.org and it does not know what to do with an XML file. The O/S is Windows 8.

  • I called the support line listed on the product page
  • the analyst had never heard of the XML extension
  • in fact, he thought I said HML or meant HTM
  • the developers said it was a configuration problem UNTIL everyone understood that the extension was XML…then nobody knew
  • I reported a similar problem with “PDF to DOC” which actually saves to a DOCX extension
  • I emailed a screen shot of the “Save As” window to yoni.l@upbill.com.

I have not received a response or any communication via phone or email

If the product will not save to XLS or DOC formats, I would like a refund. But I’d rather have the product function as it says it will.

I tried to paste a screen shot below but it makes this document too big. I can send it again if someone gives me an email address.

It shows that XML is the only extension offered for Excel files…no options for Excel 98 or 2007.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

on Win7 it works properly, allthough it does save to docx by default, you can change it to .doc when you specify a path and filename.
I could reproduce the problem on Win8, but it seems it is only a naming issue, as for me it worked to rename the file to .xls after creation. Could you try, if renaming the file will make it usable in open office ?
By default, filename extensions are hidden in Win8, you can make them visible and editable by choosing “view” in any folder and checking the “file name extensions” checkbox.
Of course, it shouldn´t be necessary to do this, but untill it gets fixed this might be an acceptable solution for you.

Hi,

Yes, I’m having these problems as well. Renaming the file after it’s being converted does not help and I cannot see an option that allows conversion to simple doc format or to xls format either.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Glenn

Hi,

try renaming during the creation instead of afterwards (you need to choose “specify file name and path” on the conversion dialog). This issue will hopefully be fixed in the next update.
