In the past PDFCreator installed and ran okay, but recently when attempting to update install, the app it has gone through the process, but failed during the Driver install with an "Access Denied". message.
I'm logged in as Admin with password, I've switched of the AV application, I've manually uninstalled PDFCreator and attempted installs a number of times with the same end result.
I've also done a number of other things to numerous to log here.
Bottom line folks.
Nothing I've done over the past days efforts has changed anything
Is there some way to fix this problem I'm missing?

I think it could something printer specific in your system. While PDFCreator is getting installed, the Setup will place a SetupLog.txt file in the installation folder. Can you post the content here? Maybe we can find out more about that.
I guess it's worth adding, that as well as AV and Firewall off attempts at an install, it was also attempted and failed in Safe mode with both My Administrator account and the OS Administrator account, all installed the app, but failed to install a Printer
In addition, another similar (cute) product goes through the install process, but fails to install the Printer.
Other, Non printer related applications can still be installed without any difficulties.
So it has to be something specific to printer driver installation, but I'm totally out of ideas.
It has got to be a machine problem, as during my work trying to get to the bottom of this annoying thing, I see, that aside from the few Printers real and virtual I already have installed, I cannot install any other drivers for printers real or virtual.
I've now spent a lot of time during the past week trying to get to the bottom of this, but I'm totally out of ideas... Well except the ultimate solution A Format reinstall of Win XP. :-((
I found the source of the Access Denied, a folder relating to PDFC which remained and was undeletable. (Neither could its Read/Write access be changed by any means).
And is now by other means, deleted.
PDFCreator installs as before, but still will *no* install the driver, but therafter exits cleanly with the message about an install problem.
FWIW. Still neither will any other virtual Printer install.

I'm going to have one last bash at this lot over the weekend, but unless I sort it now, or someone else suggest a solution... I've wasted enough of my time over the past two week so I'll just forget it, and when I need to create PDFs move the file to another machine that PDFC does install on.
Exacly the same problem here. After tring to install pdfcreator 1.3.2 there's an access denied and I'm not only able to install pdfcreator but I can't install any printers anymore, they always give acces denied. I tried rebooting, stopping spooler-service before installing etc etc. I also tried stopping my Avast-virusscanner, no help.

I've been googling and bashing my brains out on this one for two weeks now, and am no closer to a solution than before.
In my case I can summarise thus:
It's not a specific PDFCreator problem, as I've attempted manually to install a lot of real and virtual printers, but not one of them will complete the driver install, NOT one.
The four printers I had installed prior to the problem )Two virtual and two real) are still there and working correctly, but nothing else can be added.
I have no idea what system event/file/process is blocking that last bit of the install, but I sure wish someone did.
Even changed the Read/Write/unlock access to the Sys32\\Spool directory, but that didn't change anything.
D.
You can test yourself by attempting an install of CutePDF writer.
I ran "Microsoft Fix it 50389" and after that 1.3.2 installed correctly :-)
There seems to be a permissions-setting in the registry, I can only guess hoe it came there (perhaps a temporary setting during first installation-attempt of 1.3.2 which isn't re-set)?
Though I really was ****** off with the whole business and I gave up and went off to get on with some productive work, I still had a poke at the problem now and again.
Though I'm very computerate (30 years) I'm not in computing occupation wise...
Anyway, point is, while I started out in an orderly fashion, once I was past my pay grade, so-to-speak, it was just a case of try something... Suck-it-and-see...
This AM I did another "s-i-a-s" operation and wohay! it worked, I now havePDFCreator 1-3-2 fully installed, including the print driver.
What did I do, good question?
As I'm running XP Home SP-3 on the problem machine, there are tools missing that are in XP Pro but not XP Home.
So I downloaded Reset.Zip extracted "Reset.cmd" and ran it.
It took a while to do the reset and some repairs, I then re-booted the computer and attempted a PDFCreator install.
Since my last posting, I've had time to do an install of a real hardware printer driver, which previously like PDFCreator wouldn't install... This time the driver installed okay.
Since I posted about my success with the problem, I've been contacted privately by a friend who is in computers (But didn't seem able to help resolve the problem) pointing out, that I should have pointed out that...
1) Anyone wanting to try this out should first make a backup of the registry.
(Obviously I did that before hand)
2) Anyone trying this out should read up about what was going to happen as the .cmd file was doing its stuff.
I too have experienced problems getting 1.3.2 to work - the previous versions over the course of a few years have updated and worked well - not this time.
I get a message during installation announcing 'errors' but thats all - the installation continues but the application refuses to work.
Spent far too many hours trying to install - following all instructions to the letter - no other programmes running, and have uninstalled previous versions completely before each attempt.
Now thoroughly cheesed of with it - spent far too long on this and have to move on - I'll have to find an alternative programme that does not cause me all this aggravation.
I hope your problem is not at all similar to mine.
PDFCreator wasn't the problem as I discovered during my annoying and long journey to success.
During the time... I was unable to install any virtual printer app driver, and I do mean ANY, I did try a number of the most notable.
Neither during that time was I able to install any additional drivers for a real hardware (HP) printer.
It took me three weeks and a lot of hours to fix it, but it's okay now.
After an attempted install, if you look inside the PDFCreator install directory (Usually Program Files) there's an install log which might give a clue. (Or not).
I have reverted to version 1.2.3 by restoring my PC to a previous date known to be good - but PDF Creator still doesn't work - it will print a test page but when I try a document nothing appears in the print queue - then if I open the printer under 'Devices' there are the documents that failed to print designated as 'errors'. Also the printer is shown with errors in the Devices window (Yellow exclamation mark) but the trouble shooter doesn't do any good.
Clearly by updating to the latest version something in the registry has altered for good and I am not knowledgeable enough to rectify the issue.
I have PDF Creator installed on a laptop as well - version 1.2.3 also with Windows 7 and this continues to work fine.I will not attempt to update this version unless/until the installation errors are fixed.
As users with limited system knowledge we just need the program developers to help us resolve the problem. Come on guys - I have made a donation in god faith - how about some help?
Thanks Robin - Actually I just downloaded the latest version again and this time it installed perfectly without errors - so we are back up and running - great! Another donation is on its way!
