Picture quality ridiculous

This is probably just an entry to let off some steam, but I'm really fed up now after trying probably every possible option in the settings and still getting a picture quality that reminds me of one of the first fax machines.

For comparison I made pictures of how it looks in Word 2003 and after conversion with PDFCreator 1.2.3 with the following settings:

PDF dpi: 1200 (yeah I know this is ridiculous but so is the result)

Compression for all images (color, grayscale, monochrome) turned off.

Saving halftones of colors (not sure how it was called I already uninstalled PDFCreator).

I mean this is not the least acceptable. Or did I miss a special setting? I tried also CMYK and RGB for colors, no change. I can't complain about the text conversion and also the formulas look quite well, but with this crappy style of converting pictures the whole program is useless in my eyes. I'm giving PDF24Creator a try, maybe it does better, though that could not be called a challenge regarding the previous results. But if there is a way to convert Word documents in a useful way with this program I'm still curious to be enlightened.

Well I finally figured out what caused the problem, after an horrible encounter with PDF24Creator, this software really is not made for the eye and somehow it tried to mess with my normal.dot (I still have no clue why). So I found out, that every converter, I tried additionally another one, was messing with my pictures, so the problem wasn't the converter but the pictures itself. They were png files with transparent background and there lies the problem. I added a white background to one picture and saved it as a new png, included it in the document and after conversion there was no remarkable loss of quality at all although a small compression was activated.
