Hello, I tried to check new PDFCreator 1.3.2 for PS-PDF converting using Command line (which has had problems - see http://www.pdfforge.org/forum/open-discussion/8334-problem-using-pdfcreator-13x-command-line-parameters), but unfortunately the problem persists. The converting still takes several minutes! And the other problem is that after converting the Print monitor window always appears (regardless of using /NoStart switch!) so everytime it is needed to close window manually. I also tested it on several machines (Win 7 x64, Win XP), but it behaves in the same way. If returned to PDFCreator 1.2.3 then it works like a charm - the converting takes several seconds. So I am confused as the PDFCreator 1.3.2 should fix such problems mentioned above :-(
Sure, it's the same file as it is already mentioned in previous topic (see details: http://www.pdfforge.org/forum/open-discussion/8334-problem-using-pdfcreator-13x-command-line-parameters). It is possible to download it from: www.rysi.duha.cz/ps/input.ps. I am using these commands:
`\\pdfcreator.exe /IF"input.ps" /OF"output.pdf" /NoPSCheck /NoStart`
`\\pdfcreator.exe /IF"input.ps" /OF"output.pdf /NoStart"`
It doesn't matter if I use /NoStart switch or not - everytime after very looooong converting the Print monitor window appears which prevents return to command shell. The time of converting using PDFCreator 1.3.2 maybe a little shorter (about 6 minutes) in comparison with using PDFCreator 1.3.1 (7 minutes) but it is uncomparable in case of using PDFCreator 1.2.3 (several seconds!). The issue with Print monitor window even has not been encountered in case of using PDFCreator 1.3.1., so it seems that it is an another problem.
Hi,
could you supply us with a testpage from PDFCreator 1.3.2 and maybe a PS file which takes so long to convert, so we can do some tests?
regards,
Robin
Hi,
I just tested your file and it converted within a few seconds and the print monitor also didnt stay open. My guess is that something went wrong during the update, since the behaviour you are describing would fit for 1.3.0/1.3.1. Please try uninstalling PDFCreator, rebooting you machine and installing version 1.3.2 again.
regards,
Robin
It's very strange! Have you really tested PS-PDF converting using Command line? Converting using print monitor or file association (ie double-clicking on input.ps file) takes few seconds, actually, but using command lines still takes several minutes!
I have done a new, clean install of Win 7 Prof x64 (+ SP1 + MS updates) and PDF Creator 1.3.2 (nothing else) and have tried to convert input.ps using command line but it also takes 6 minutes! So then I have done a new, clean install of Windows XP (+ SP3 + MS updates) and PDF Creator 1.3.2 (nothing else) and have tried to convert input.ps using command line but the problem was the same!
So the problem is connected with command line using, actually - as the calling the PDFCreator with command line parameters is essential in order to using PDF-T-Maker I would like to ask you to check it again using command line parameters. It doesn't seem to me that PDFCreator is not buggy in that way as the problem I have encountered on 5 different machines including 2 ones with fresh OS installation!
Thank you
Hi,
yes I really tested using command line heres my exact call: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\PDFCreator\\PDFCreator.exe /IF"C:\\Users\\Robin Werner\\Down
oads\\input.ps" /OF"C:\\Users\\Robin Werner\\Documents\\output.pdf" /NoPSCheck /NoStart.
It converted within seconds on Win7x64 ( the printig monitor was active).
If /NoPSCheck isn´t used, it wont work. Did you use both commands
`\\pdfcreator.exe /IF"input.ps" /OF"output.pdf" /NoPSCheck /NoStart`
`\\pdfcreator.exe /IF"input.ps" /OF"output.pdf /NoStart"`
in combination?
Only the top one should be used.
regards,
Robin
Hello,
thanks for your reply. Well, "/NoPSCheck" parameter is needed, but even if I used it, the problem still persists and PS-PDF converting takes 6 minutes. I also tried to use COM interface, but without success (see http://www.pdfforge.org/forum/help/8560-very-slow-ps-pdf-converting-pdfcreator-132-story-continues). Furthermore sometimes I have encountered another problem: after converting I get the empty PDF file (ie one blank page only) - so it's the same as some other people reported here in forum.
So I am confused completely and I really don't know how to fix such serious problem for me, as it occurs on all machines I have tested on :-(
Don't you have any ideas, please?
Hi,
the PDFCreator.exe must be running in order for the commands with the parameter /NoStart to work. Have you checked that it is actually running and if yes do you see the job in the queue for 6 minutes, or will it take a long time for it to show up in the queue?
regards,
Robin
The commandswitch bug is fixed in the next version. The problem with the slow conversion is fixed in the next version.
Best regards,
Well, I have tested it in case of PDFCreator has been already running - the behaviour was also very strange, actually. After calling the command with /NoStart parameter a new job has appeared in the queue immediately but then the Print View Window has been shown to browse for file name (even the appropriate filename was provided as a parameter on command line!). When I have given a filename the job has disappeared from queue and PDF file has been created but this file has been completely empty (one blank page only). After that it has seemed that application has done nothing for 6 minutes and then the command has ended and returned to command prompt :-(
Hello Frank, thank you very much for your great information. I will be very happy if the command line bug is fixed - as I have said before, I use PDF-T-Maker extensively so the PS-PDF converting using command line is essential for me. I hope that functionality of converting will be the same as in versions of 1.2.3 and older - i.e. the PDFCreator will be called using command line on-demand only, so it wouldn't be needed to let running PDFCreator (ie Print Monitor) for all time.
Thank you again for your support.
