Regression? PDFCreator 2.0.2 creates PDF documents Version 1.4 (Acrobat 5), not 1.5 anymore

Hello,

I have noticed that PDFCreator 2.0.2 creates PDF documents
Version 1.4 (Acrobat 5), not 1.5 anymore. " 2.0.0 is the latest version
that can create PDF documents Version 1.5 (Acrobat 6) and Version 1.7.x
also were able to create PDF documents Version 1.5.
Does anyobe know
why the newest version is not able to create PDF documents Version 1.5
anymore? This seems like kind of a regression to me. Is pdfforge aware
of that problem?
Is there a way to fix this (maybe a registry key?) I haven’t found a program setting for this in the 2.x versions.

Any help would be kindly appreciated!
Greetings,
Stefan

Hi,

this was done intentionally. PDFCreator now uses the minimum PDF version required for the selected properties. In most cases, this will be 1.4, as it doesn’t have any benefits to use a higher version unless you are using features which require it.
If you e.g. use 128 BIT AES encryption for security, it will use PDF level 1.6 as this is required for AES encryption.

best regards,

Hello Robin W.,

thank you for your prompt answer. Unfortunately, as it is in our case, it is essential that we have a PDF creator tool that produces PDF level 1.5 or higher. Our faxing solution, that processes the PDF documents has that requirement. It crashes with PDF documents below level 1.5. So for us,
it is really a no-go if this level is not available anymore. We don’t need encryption and adding a password when creating the document (even if skippable) is too much.

If there is a way to bring back PDF level 1.5 (or higher) back again (i.E. with a registry key), please tell me.

Thank you very much
best regards

Hi,

a possilbe workarround is using the PDF Architect to create the PDFs (uses 1.7 per default), or enabling the encryption with a predefined owner password (this will not show a dialog and the user opening the PDF will not need to enter the password). You could also ask the developers of your fax software to accept PDF 1.4; I can’t think of a technical reason why it requires 1.5.

best regards,

Hello,

you wrote: "enabling the encryption with a predefined owner password"
That works allright, but where in the registry is that password stored?
I have to do a rollout to many PCs and knowing which is the exact registry key for this would help me a lot. I can not ask every user to have a pssword stored on his own.

Thank you
