Hello,
I have a question regarding "formats" => "PDF" => "compression".
What's different between "downsample" and "average downsample"?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards

it is just the downsampling algorithm you select there. In general, the default is the best. There may be some cases, where average rasampling is better (basically, when you have exactly half or quarter size), but that is very seldom

Hello Philip,
I have often Word-Documents with large images (2048 x 1536 pixels, from camera). I convert this word-documents with your great PDFCreator to PDF files. For emailing, I need small files.
If I use "automatic", the filesize of the PDF is 238kB. If I use "JPEG-Maximum", downsample to 300, the file is only 174kB. This is a gain of 27%, and I can't see a quality loss! Therefore I don't use the automatic mode.

these are two different things. The JPEG-Quality is the image compression that is applied. It produces quality-loss (more compression -> lower quality). The Resampling method is applied if the image is resized to match a given resolution. Thus you can further reduce the size of the pdf by setting a fixed resolution. Then, the resamling method applies, that affects the quality as well.
But if I set the JPEG-Quality to automatic, the adjustments for resampling are disabled.

Is it correct, that it is impossible to set the JPEG-quality to automatic, and to set the resolution to 300, at the same time?

in addition to this question i had some more questions:
1/ when i take a look at the advanced options in ms word (file - print - pdfcreator - properties - advanced) a print resoution is set. this is not the same as the resolution in the options of the pdfcreator programm itself. should both resolutions be adapted? should they always match?
2/ what is the difference between the resolution in the general tab and in the compression tab? why should i decide to set 2400dpi in the general tab when in the compression tab 300dpi is set?
3/JPEG-maximum means what: maximum quality of the jpeg-images, or maximum compression of the jpeg-images (and thus minimum quality)?
4/ what exact resolution settings (in ms word advanced; in pdfcreator itself in both the general tab as well as the compression tab) should be used when preparing for a press-pdf?
