Save as issue

If I open two PDF files Pdf1 & Pdf2 and merge them into MergedDocument1 then close Pdf1 and try to save the merged document as Pdf1 I get the following error: the selected file can not be overwritten. The file is just using from a other program or is write-protected.

If I click Ok then try to save as again I get an Unhandled exception error.

I can work around this by saving the merged document as Pdf3 then use Windows Explorer to delete the original file then rename the merged document as the original but this adds extra steps that should not be necessary.

Is this a known bug? I have not seen any mention of it in the forum.

Hi,

it seems to be something specific to your system, maybe Pdf1 isn´t closed but only hidden? Have you tried deleting Pdf1 manually at the moment you get the error that it´s still in use?

When I right click on Pdf1 and choose close the file looks like it closed since the tab in PdfArchitect goes away. If I then try to delete the file in Windows Explorer with PdfArchitect open it gives me the following message. The action can't be completed because the file is open in PDFArchitect.

It seems that PDFArchitect is not actually closing the file even though the tab closes. If I exit the program then I can delete the Pdf1 file.

I've tried this using the following versions of PDFArchitect on both Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 Professional 64bit with the same result.

0.5.2.450

0.5.5.509

0.5.6.519

Hi,

it´s not a bug, PDFArchitect needs to keep the original PDFs open untill the document is saved.

You can use PDFCreator to merge the PDFs and overwrite the original file at the same time.
