Supress PDFCreator to set PDF Default Printer

Hello everyone,

PDFConvert 1.41 or 2.x
Win7x64 SP1
Thin Clients (VM Ware View)
Fat Clients

I have learned that there are optional profiles in the registry to configure settings in

So they will be loaded everytime a new user log into a System into the HKCU Hive.

i have also learned that there is a config.ini file which could be used to configure pdfcreator during the installation with more advanced properties, than in commandline mode or gui installation.

Unfortunately i didn't found anythning related to DISABLE the PDF Printer as Default Printer

any response is welcome

PDFCreator doesn’t usually set itself as default printer, do you mean the prompt or function for temporarily setting it as default printer?
Or does it set itself as default printer for an unknown reason on your machines?
We have had users reporting this kind of behavior but were never able to reproduce it here.

best regards,

Hi Robin,

but there is somekind of active setup which will run after a new user gets logged in? What happens during this section?

when a new user gets logged in, settings from HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\\Settings will get copied to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\\Settings, so if you’d like to create default setting for new users you need to create them under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\\Settings and make sure to adjust HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\\Settings\ConversionProfiles value for numClasses according to the number of profiles you have.
I don’t think anything else happens, but will aks our developers.
The only reason we can think of PDFCreator setting itself as default printer is, if the default printer gets uninstalled and PDFCreator is the only remaining printer.

best regards,

Hi Robin, thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately we dont have a settings folder in this hive. Is it mandatory to create one during the setup with an additional REG value Registration or how should we approach to get These Settings in?

just realized these settings are only valid for versions > 1.7.3, which will create the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\\Settings key by default, the HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\\Settings needs to be created manually.
Using a REG value Registration during or directly after the setup should work
