Unable to display Rotis Sans Serif font in bold on PDF Creator v1.7.3

Hi,

When I print documents to PDFCreator using RotisSansSerif Font it is unable to display any of the characters in bold.

PDF Creator was able to display/print Rotis Font in bold on version 1.6.0  but on versions 1.7.2 and 1.7.3 the Rotis Font isn’t shown as bold.

Is there any chance you can look into this?

Thanks,

Harley

Hi,

please first try using version 1.9.5 to make sure this hasn’t been fixed yet.
If this doesn’t help, please let us know. Another thing you could try is using a different ghostscript version in PDFCreator 1.7.3 (best try the version included in 1.6.0).

best regards

Hi Cay,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried version 1.9.5 and this still doesn’t display and font in bold. How would I go about trying a different ghostscript version in 1.7.3?

This is a problem on Windows 7 professional and Windows 8.1 enterprise (x64) so I would assume it is a problem in all versions of windows.

Thanks,

Harley

Hi,

first install the ghostscript version you’d like to try to any folder on your computer, then tell PDFCreator to use it in the “ghostscript” section of the options.Which viewer did you use? PDFCreator can’t view files, did you view it in PDF Architect or Adobe Reader and which version was it? We will try to reproduce this here.

best regards,

Hi Cay,

The documents are being viewed in Adobe Reader v11.0.09. This problem was also happening with older versions of Adobe Reader. Unfortunately there is no point in me testing in other PDF viewers because this company wants to use Adobe PDF across the board.

I’ve installed Ghostscript v 9.15 from their website but I am unsure how to actually tell PDF Creator to use this version instead of version 9.10 in the options menu.

Thanks,

Harley

Hi,

start the pdfcreator.exe, go to the ghostscript section of the options and enter the path to your ghostscript 9.15 into “Additional ghostscript search path”, afterwards you should be able to select it from the dropdown menu “ghostscript version”. It might be worth trying version 9.06 if 9.15 doesn’t help, as 9.06 is the version which came with PDFCreator 1.6.0 where the font was still working properly.

best regards,

Hi Cay,

Please see attached image as I am unable to select a second ghostscript version even though i have manually installed version 9.1.5

Thanks,

Harley

Hi,

was the PDFCreator running while you installed the ghostscript?
If restarting the PDFCreator doesn’t help, you could try to reinstall, when I tested it here I first installed ghostscript and installed PDFCreator afterwards, then it instantly showed up in the dropdown menu, it wasn’t even neccesary to enter the path (as I guess C:\Programme\gs\gs9.15 is default).

best regards,

Hi,

PDF Creator was running when I installed Ghostscript 9.15. I have since uninstalled both Ghostscript and PDF creator. I then rebooted and installed Ghostscript. Then installed PDFCreator and I am still unable to change the ghostscript version even when I point PDF creator to look in C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.15

This is a problem for versions 1.7.3 PDF Creator. Version 1.9.5 Doesn’t have any ghostscript options

I have also tried this with Ghostscript 9.0.6 and still the same issue.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Harley

Hi,

I was not able to reproduce this here using the 32 bit version of ghostscript 9.15, did you also use this or was it the 64 bit version?
Another thing which might be an option is to try printing to the PDF Architect virtual printer instead of using PDFCreator, the create module is free.

best regards,

Hi,

I have tried Ghostscript 32bit and this did allow me to chose the 9.1.5 version of Ghostscript. However, bold Rotis Font text still doesn’t appear in bold.

I have also tried version 2.0 of Pdf creator as I saw this was recently released. This still doesn’t allow me to print in bold. I am also unable to find the settings in PDF Creator 2.0 to chose what version of Ghostscript is being use.

Kind Regards,

Harley

Hi,

I am not sure if it will be possible to fix this, but we will have a look at it.
If you installed PDF Architect together with PDFCreator, you could register for the free create module and try sending the same document to the PDF Architect printer instead, there is a good chance it doesn’t have this problem.

best regards,

Hi Cay,

No worries, thanks for the update. Please let me know if you do manage to fix this bug! Unfortunately the end users don’t want PDF Architect on their machines.

Thanks for all your help.

Kind Regards,

Harley

Hi,

did you try using ghostscript version 9.06 with PDFCreator 1.7.3? This is the only version really worth trying, because that is what PDFCreator 1.60 used where the problem didn’t occur.
