The default printer should be the same before and after the updates. If my default printer was pdfcreator, then I’d like it to be the default printer after updates.
Randomly printing on real paper is not fun. (Now I know it’s not random, but it seamed to be random until now)
Preserving other default settings like landscape orientation would be also a good idea. (but it’s not such a big problem like wasting paper)

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for an answer. I reported a similar problem (paper size is not preserved after an update), no response from the developers.
I’m guessing the major problem is that PDFCreator’s update process is an uninstall followed by an install. The uninstall appears to remove any settings you might have.
My problem was that paper size was changed to A4, which results in loss of information.
This is enough of a problem that I’ve moved to a different product. I just checked back in to see if there was any acknowledgement of the problem. There wasn’t
