Installed version 1.6.1, now documents will not print -- they just go to a queue, but don ot show up in the document table. Troubleshooter does not help.
did you install it as an update? Do they show up in the PDFCreator print monitor ? Does printing a testpage from the PDFCreator options? Please also post your setuplog.txt as plain text here (located in your PDFCreator directory)
I’ve confirmed that reinstalling 1.6.1 shows the exact same problems persist.
For what it’s worth, when printing a test page the error dialog shows with the message noted above, and I select the next command button I get this sequence of errors before the dialog finally closes…
I have a very similar problem as described in this threat, except that I don’t get any error messages. The print goes through the print spooler of Windows, then just disappears. Printing a test page from PDF Creator also does not work. No print assignment appears to be created. Would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.
I have exactly the same problem with 1.6.1 version as kvwielink. Recently I changed my home wifi network (after purchasing new router) and problems with PDF Creator/Architect occured. At first, an installation of a new 1.6.1 version ended with error. I tried to reinstall and restart pc but every time an error statement at the end of the installation had occured. Even though, everything seems ok. When I want to print a file and click to the print button PDF Creator/Architect simply doesn’t print. I have already turned on file and printer sharing in my wireless network. Furthermore, when I want to open Printing preferences an error notice stating “Operation could not be completed” occur. I can open PDF Creator/Architect but simply I can’t print. Is something wrong with my network sharing permissions? Thanks for help
there are several issues at once here, I will try to answer as many as possible: @marox: Do you have your temp folder on a network drive? It needs to be on a local drive.
general known issues : %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% for some reason doesn´t get reexpanded by the PDFCreator, you need to use %USERPROFILE% or a direct path instead (as enviroment variable for your temp/tmp location). Sometimes files are still in use during setup causing them to not be replaced correctly. To avoid this, uninstall PDFCreator, do a reboot (most important step), and reinstall afterwards.
Please tell me if this helped with any of the problems.
My temp env variables have been local static folder names for a long time, and they remain so as of this problem too.
I’ve uninstalled 1.6.1. I rebooted. I then re-installed 1.6.1. I then rebooted again. Printing to PDFCreator simply vanishes without a trace. (My noted messages above were because I turned on logging to see if I could learn anything. I have left logging turned off for now) Printing with PDFArchitect gave me the “not activated” dialog. So I then activated the free PDF Architect module. And now I can print to the PDF Architect printer, but not to the PDFCreator printer. I suppose I could attempt another reboot to see if the Architect activation code will help PDFCreator too, But seems a bit far fetched at the moment. If you recommend it, or I get the chance to reboot sometime soon, I’ll do the reboot and get back to you.
I took a look at my temp folder. The PdfCreator folder was not accessible by my administrator rights user. I was able to get the folder ownership to the administrator group. And then there was a spool subfolder too that I had to do the same. Once I did that, the next time I printed for PDFCreator, an awful lot of other files were there to be printed. To be fair, all the prior files had not default title, and no page contents. The last one, and the one I just used to test the print, was fine. It had a title, and it had the proper printing contents.
It would appear that the folders did not have an owner defined. I didn’t find any errors in the event logs. I looked through all of them and found just a few PDF Architect service start up messages.
I’ve tested PDF Creator printing on a couple other applications. It appears to be working for me now.
The PdfCreator, it’s subfolder spool, and that folders files (ps, etc.) all showed as unknown owner despite my administrator rights. In order to print, and remove these files, I had to give the administrator ownership of the files, and then give the owner full control over the folders and files. I do not know what you intended for proper security to be for this folder group. Please advise me if I need to change it to something besides the administrator group.
If you have any other questions, or would like for me to take a look at something else for you, just let me know. I’ll check back every day or so for a while to see.
thank you for this usefull information, i do have one more little question : Did your PDFCreator logfile contain PDFCreator spool directory (Write access: false) ?
was the PDFCreator temp folder created in your system temp directory? By default it is created in %USERPROFILE%, so maybe it has something to do with having changed enviroment variables, will do some tests on a VM.
Perhaps by default the USER environment settings might have the temp files specifications using the %USERPROFILE%. I don’t recall anymore. If true, then years ago I changed to use a static location on disk. Oddly enough, it does not match the system versions of those variables which appear to still use their default value.
Hi all, I had exactly same problem so I checked the access to the temp folder (C:\\Users\\Petr\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\PdfCreator) and there was a problem - the access denied. I don't know why because few days ago it was working properly. So I get the owner rights and now it is working again.
I have a similiar problem with Ver 1.6.x on Win XP Pro and Win 7. The print file is queued but will not create a PDF file. PDF Creator is offline and it will not go online. The way I solved it before was to reinstall 1.5.0 and that seemed to work. I am going to do this again and make sure it does but in the meantime PDF Creator is broken and I hope you can fix it soon. I will not be installing 1.6.x again until you can tell me it has been fixed.
I am having this same problem installing 1.7.1. It will not print. There is an ownership problem with the PDFCreator folder and SPOOL folder in the Appdata/local/Temp directory.
What can be done to fix this? I tried changing the ownership. No luck.
