Why the "- Notepad" in the pdf file name?

Hi,

I have one machine "windows 2008 server" that will generate a PDF like "[filename]-Notepad.pdf" when I print from notepad to PDFCreator 1.7 (command line or from application).

On Autosave, I set File name to be ".pdf"

Why is Notepad in the name? I notice that is what Notepad displays on its title bar when I open a text file

And I have another similar Windows machine and the settings on PDFCreator look the same but there is no "Notepad" in the pdf name. Why is it not showing on this other box?

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Hi,

this is what notepad sends to the PDFCreator printer. You can get rid of it by adding it to the substitution list and replace -Notepad with blank.

best regards,
thanks Robin.

ok, that makes sense. I am just wondering now why the difference between two boxes that should be identical AFAIK. I don't necessarily need to get rid of it but understand why Notepad would generate two different names on two machines with the same OS (for the same file). Maybe some registry setting ...

Robin,

I just noticed something else.
1) If I try to print from notepad to another PDF printer, like Adobe PDF (with save dialog) the file name does not have " - Notepad" (like PDFCreator does).
2) " -Notepad" shows in the tiltle of the notepad window as well

Any idea why Adobe PDF can get the correct name?

thanks
Cristian

Hi,

they may have an inbuilt substitution list or use a different part of the printing information like the filename instead of the title.
