Blank pages in windows 7 64bit

Hi

I got a problem

whatever I print, I can only get blank pages except test-page inside pdfcreator.

windows built-in test-page is also blank.

and there is no error or warnings

I also tried uninstall,reboot,reinstall, but nothing changed

 

Infos:

Windows 7 64bit

Version:1.4.3

Installed Path:C:\\PDFCreator

I aslo changed PrinterTemppath to C:\\PDFCreator\\temp

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

a possible cause for this could be the spool directory having the wrong permission settings, make sure the user has full rights to the spool folder.

Hi,

 

somehow an .mtd file is created instead of a .ps and.inf file, to see why this happens I would like to ask you for one more log, which is a bit more tricky to get:

enable advanced logging by adding the following DWORD (32 bit) value to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Print\\Monitors\\pdfcmon in your registry:

name : Logging, value :1. This will cause PDFCreator to create an advanced logfile at %Windir%\\Temp\\_pdfcmonLog.txt.

This would be really helpfull and help us troubleshooting.

could you enable logging in PDFCreator and post the text here? (by pressing F3 or by selecting it from the menu in the PDF print monitor )

If the DocName is Chinese it resutls in a blank page.  Here is the log:

The inf file is corrupted like:

"D o c u m e n t T i t l e = t e s t   -   皨婲,g"

Which should be:

"test - 记事本"

(In English, the title is "test - Notepad")

 

So I tried to open it in IE, the title changed into "file://C:\\Users\\uchan\\Desktop\\test.txt"

and I get the right pdf file, which is not blank.

thank you very much for helping us detecting the bug.

Like you have observed, the title which is passed onto PDFCreator depends on the printing application (like notepad will always add - Notepad). You can get rid of these additions by using filename substitutions (Options->Save), you can substitute with a blank.

It seems that the title will be changed by IE, like "file:///C:/Users/uchan/AppData/Local/Temp/CXAA9XMC.htm"

Hi,

 

have you added additional Ghostscript parameters? (Options->Ghostscript->additional Ghostscript parameters) If yes, it might help to remove these. The logging should work I just tested it to make sure, please check for spelling mistakes etc:)

Older versions can be found here:

http://download.pdfforge.org/download/pdfcreator/list

but if you want to revert you might have to manually uninstall all of the new version, reboot your system and afterwards run the setup for a legacy version.

I had the similar problem as well. I've been using 1.4.3 on my XP machine without any problem until I updated to 1.5.0. By printing the test page throught PDFCreator iteself, nothning goes wrong. But when I use the other program (say Notepad) to print, then the PDF file created is blank, if I chose to save as JPG, then the JPG file simply disappeared. Attached is the log file to show what I did. First print PDF and JPG through PDFCreater (the test page), then print a text file from Notepad, which created a blank PDF file and a disappeared JPG.

However, I had tried to add the "Logging" to the registry with the value = 0x1 as you suggested. But no advance log file found.

It seems like I am not the only one with this problem. I used to use 1.2 version, and everything was fine, and I am happy with this software. But, after I upgraded to 1.5 version, the pages that transfered to PDF format were always blank, nothing there?

How can I fix it? Is there any chance that I can go back to use 1.2 version? Is there any place I can download it again?

Hi Robin,

There is no additional Ghostscript parameters in my setting. However, I just found the software that installed or updated AFTER the PDFCreator v.1.5.0 installation CAN print the PDF or JPG normally. And for those programs that can print normally, the document title in the PDFCreator window are not blank. (Filled with the filename or filename with program … etc) Otherwise, the document title is blank. I think there must be some problem in telling the OLD program that a new printer driver has been installed … don’t know why, that’s what I find.

have you tried doing a complete removal of PDFCreator and then reinstalling aftwerwards?
The behaviour of PDFCreator is very unusual and i can´t reproduce it here.
